FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Sunday, April 13 at 4 pm, come and hear the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium perform J. S. Bach's St. John Passion at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 518 E. DeWald St.
Bach's Passion is a choral-instrumental dramatization of the passion story as recorded in John 18:1-19:42. Tenor soloist, Daniel Blosser, narrates the story. The role of Jesus is sung by bass soloist, Keith Brautigam, of Pilate by tenor Brad Hall, and of the servant-maid by soprano Cheryl Gigler. The 36-voice Collegium sings the responses of groups, such as, the soldiers, the disciples, and mocking crowds. In contrast, the choir sings a dozen familiar Lenten hymns, inserted in the drama between paragraphs, which voice the thoughts and emotions of listeners, who take the impact of the story to heart. Arias also provide moments for reflection, and will be sung by soprano Amy Prickett, alto Patricia Kennedy, tenors Jeffrey Manns and C. Alin Cass, and bass Keith Brautigam.
The forces employed in this performance come close to those used by Bach in his own performances. A smaller choir, singing in the lilting Baroque style, performing with period instruments at about ½ step lower than modern performances. The portable pipe organ will be tuned as was Bach's. This combination results in the production of some very interesting and unique sounds Whatever the sound, you will hear a wonderful blend between period instruments and singers, presented with a clarity and transparency through which you will readily understand every word.
