Early Instruments Seminar February 14


When: Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 2 pm – Valentine’s Day!

Where: Redeemer Lutheran Church, 202 W. Rudisill Blvd., Fort Wayne, Indiana

What: An informal introduction and demonstration of instruments used at the time of Bach, including the Baroque violin and bassoon - with special emphasis on this Valentine’s Day the Baroque Oboe d’Amore – oboe of love, and the Baroque harpsichord with a collection of pictures that show “love,” and cupids in the case artwork. This is open to all music enthusiasts, whether a beginning student or an advanced professional. Come learn about pitch, temperament and style – how period instruments depict love - from our Baroque specialists.

Tickets: Adults $12 – Seniors $10 – Students $5 – 12 & under Free – Group (10+) $10 each

Complimentary student tickets are available on a limited basis by contacting the Bach Collegium at director@bachcollegium.org. All in attendance will receive complimentary tickets to the Mass, Cantata & Concerto Concert on the following afternoon.


Mass, Cantata, & Concerto Concert February 15

When: Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 4 pm

Where: First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana

What: Three major works by Bach will be performed with period instruments –

Baroque strings: violins, viola, cello, and violone

Baroque reeds: oboes, oboe d’amore, bassoon, and contra bassoon

Baroque brass: trombone and horn

Baroque keyboard: harpsichord and organ


Bach Repertory:

Two pieces that use singers and period instruments --

Mass in G minor (BWV 235) one of Bach’s 4 short “Kyrie-Gloria” Masses composed before his complete Mass in B minor)

Cantata “For God So Greatly Loved the World” (BWV 68)

One piece for instruments alone --

Concerto in C minor (BWV 1060) for Oboe & Violin soloists with Strings & Harpsichord

Graham St-Laurent, oboe and Martin Davids, violin
