The Bach Collegium, the region’s only early music ensemble, will perform its first choral concert of the season Sunday November 14th at 5:00PM at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 405 West Wayne Street, downtown Fort Wayne.
The concert is an ambitious undertaking, featuring music for double choirs presented in the style of the 17th and 18th centuries, separating the choirs in different locations within the performing space. The venue of Trinity English Lutheran Church allows for separation in the galleries as well as the divided chancel choir area. The Collegium will perform works by Bach, Gabrieli, Schuetz, and Vaughan Williams, incorporating a small group of soloists with stunning credentials on some of the pieces. Names familiar to some in our area include soprano Denise Ritter, alto Elizabeth Buckley, tenor Don Bernardini and bass Joseph Mace. Also featured are Patricia Reeves on Baroque Flute, Derek Reeves on Baroque Viola, and other noted instrumentalists on Gambas, Violones (both 8’ and 16’ instruments!) and more. The double choir logistics present a special challenge, and Artistic Director Daniel Reuning will be assisted by Dr. Patricia Kennedy as Associate Director and Thomas Remenschneider as Assisting Director, to ensure that both choirs are rhythmically synchronized. This is a unique opportunity to hear the sound that has been called “one of the finest blended ensembles in the area.”
